Alexis Ross Miller is an experienced project manager, political campaign consultant, marketing and public relations whiz, grantwriter, fundraising and development professional, as well as a former reporter and editor. Her most recent contract position at Effie Kokrine Charter School in Fairbanks, allowed her to combine her two loves: politics and education. Alexis put her political expertise in high gear in a marketing and public relations blitz to increase the charter schools enrollment by more than 50 percent within a 6 month period. One of Alexis' most adventurous jobs was the year she spent working in Barrow, as the Marketing and Development Coordinator for Ilisagvik College. Her major accomplishments at Ilisagvik included establishing a monthly college newsletter and a weekly public radio show, where she trained college students as the show's hosts and broadcast the show in both Inupiaq and English. Another major accomplishment was the re-establishment of the College's Foundation and a major fundraising drive to oil companies, which increased scholarship donations by 30 percent. Alexis has worked in the political arena for more than 20 years. Her first job was as a House page in the Alaska State Legislature and she spent a year on the staff of Senator Ted Stevens in Washington, D.C. She has worked for legislators from across the state. She ran her first campaign in Alaska in 1986 and has worked on races at all levels in Alaska and Idaho — local, state and federal — since then. She has worked as both a reporter and editor in Alaska, Montana and Idaho, including a stint as a public radio reporter in Ketchikan. Alexis holds a B.A. in English from the University of Montana. Born and raised in Alaska, Alexis has worked in seven communities across the state including Ketchikan, Sitka, Petersburg, Juneau, Anchorage, Fairbanks and Barrow. |
